Samajwadi Party's candidate Pravin Nishad defeated BJP candidate Upendra Dutt Shukla by 21,881 votes in the by-election in Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seat. Where Pravin Nishad gets 4,56,513 votes, BJP candidate can get 4,34,632 votes.

The special thing is that on which booth where the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had voted, out of the total 1775 votes on that booth, the BJP could get only 43 votes. In the bypoll, SP got tremendous support from the coalition partners, including the BSP. A lot of Votes of Muslim, Yadav, Dalit and Nishad went to the SP. At the same time, the Congress is struggling for mass base in the state. That is why Congress candidate Dr. Surhita Kareem could get only 18,844 votes and her bail was seized.

There was little controversy during election counting, after the completion of five rounds of counting, the result of only one round was declared. The SP candidate also accused the Chief Electoral Officer of rigging in elections. After this the demonstration was performed, although the situation was restored later. The Election Commission has also made the questions and answers to the election officer. Although, Yogi Adityanath had organized 16 worker Conferences and Meetings in these elections, but the lack of enthusiasm in the workers probably got heavy on the yogi's hard work.
