Wednesday, July 10, 2024

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived on a visit to Austria on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. He met Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer in the capital Vienna and talked on many issues including the Ukraine war.

Narendra Modi said, "First of all, I thank Chancellor Nehammer for the warm welcome. I am happy that I got the opportunity to visit Austria at the beginning of my third term.''

"This visit of mine is both historic and special. After 41 years, any Indian Prime Minister has visited Austria. It is also a happy coincidence that this visit is taking place at a time when 75 years of our mutual cooperation have been completed.''

Modi said, "Today, Chancellor Nehammer and I had a very meaningful conversation. We have identified new possibilities to further strengthen mutual cooperation. We have decided that the relations will be given a strategic direction. A blueprint has been prepared for cooperation for the coming ten years.''

Modi said, "I and the Chancellor have talked about all the disputes going on in the world, including Ukraine. I have said earlier also that this is not the time for war. Problems cannot be solved on the battlefield. Loss of lives of innocent people, wherever it may be, is not acceptable.''

Karl Nehammer said, "Before his visit to Austria, PM Modi has met the Russian President. Therefore, it was particularly important for me to hear about the Prime Minister's personal assessment of Russia's intentions regarding peace progress."

"Our common objective is to achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in accordance with the UN Charter."

Karl Nehammer said, "My Cabinet is constantly in contact with the European Union. Yesterday my Cabinet spoke to Charles Michel by telephone about possible approaches and issues in this context. Importantly, Austria is making a significant contribution to an independent and prosperous Ukraine."
