He said that the State Department has informed the United Nations Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Director General Irina Bokova today about the decision to be out of the United States and sought a permanent supervisor mission in UNESCO.
The spokesman said that the US has expressed its willingness to be associated with UNESCO as the non-member supervisor so that the US can contribute to American thought, perspective and expertise on some of the important issues raised by the organization. These issues include protecting the World Heritage, advising the freedom of the press and promoting scientific cooperation and education.
