After dissolving Parliament, Sri Lankan President Maitripala Sirisena said on Friday that the elections will be held on January 5. Sri Lankan President Maitripala Sirisena broke the country's parliament on Friday on political and constitutional crisis, after the sacking of Prime Minister Ranil Vikramasinghe, clearing the way for the general elections in the country ahead of time.

Sirisena signed a gazette notification for breaking the Parliament of the country from midnight on Friday. This is another awe-inspiring step between the two-week political and constitutional crisis.

The step to dissolve Parliament has been taken by the closest associate of the President to indicate that Sirisena has decided not to hold elections or national referendum prematurely to end the current political and constitutional crisis in Sri Lanka. Analysts believe that the decision of today's night is also unconstitutional according to the 19th amendment. According to the 19th amendment, the President can not dismiss the prime minister or dissolve Parliament before the completion of the term of four and a half years.

The United National Party, led by Vikramasinghe, said in a statement: "We strongly oppose the decision to dissolve Parliament. They have snatched their rights from the people. Political parties said that after the decision to dissolve the Parliament of 225 members by Sirisena Parliamentary elections in the country can be renewed in January next year.

It has been reported in the news of the official television that Sirisena has signed an official notification dissolving the existing 225-member parliament. Its term was to be completed in August 2020. Significantly, Sirisena sacked Prime Minister Ranil Vikramasinghe and replaced his former rival Mahinda Rajapakse as the Prime Minister of the country. This led to a political crisis in the country.
