The Supreme Court of Sri Lanka reversed the move of President Maitripala Sirisena to dissolve Parliament on Tuesday and ordered the ban on preparations for the proposed mid-term elections on January 5. The party office bearers present there told this.
A three-member bench, chaired by Sri Lankan Chief Justice Nalin Pereira, gave the order after a two-day court proceedings filed on the petition in against of about 13 and five filed in favor of Sirisena's November 9 verdict.
The top court gave the order that all petitions related to Sirisena's decision will now be heard on four, five and six December. The petitioners include Ratnajivan Hule, a member of the Independent Election Commission along with various parties.
Sirisena dissolved Parliament and issued orders to hold mid-term elections on January 5. The country was trapped in unprecedented crisis by this.
