Paris Olympics: Indian men's hockey team wins bronze medal

Thursday, August 8, 2024

India defeated Spain in the men's hockey match of the Paris Olympics to win the bronze medal for the second time in a row in the Olympic Games.

India also won the bronze medal in the last Olympic Games held in Tokyo.

Today, at one point Spain was leading 1-0 but India also made a comeback and brought the score to 1-1. Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh scored the first goal for his team through a penalty corner.

Harmanpreet also scored the second goal for India and took a 2-1 lead over his opponent. Harmanpreet has scored 11 goals in the Paris Olympics so far.

First rusher Amit Rohidas made a comeback in this match.

Rohidas received a red card in the quarter-final match against Great Britain and was banned for one match. Due to this he could not play in the semi-final match.

India had to face a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Germany in the semi-finals. While Spain had suffered a decisive defeat at the hands of the Netherlands.

The Indian team played aggressively against Germany in the semi-finals. India took the lead by scoring a goal in the seventh minute of the first quarter. This goal was also scored by Harmanpreet Singh.

But India's rhythm did not remain. However, in the third quarter, India equalized the score at two goals.

The Indian team missed Rohidas in this match. The lack of rusher while taking penalty corners against the team and also in defense during Germany's attacks was clearly visible.

Before this match, it was believed that the Indian team has become very strong mentally. But in the last quarter, when Germany scored the third goal and took the lead, the team started to disintegrate.

The record of the Indian hockey team in the Olympic Games has been golden.

India has won a total of 12 medals in the Olympic Games so far.

The gold medal won in the 1936 Berlin Olympics is still talked about. At that time, Germany was ruled by the Nazi Party and Hitler himself had come to watch the match.

India has so far won eight gold medals, one silver (1960) and four bronze (1968 and 1972) medals.

The Indian hockey team last won gold in the 1980 Moscow Olympics. 41 years later, it won bronze in the Tokyo Olympics.
