Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project: Rahul questions PM Modi's role

 31 Aug 2023 ( News Bureau )

In India, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has questioned the role of Vinod Adani, brother of Gautam Adani, after the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), an organization backed by US billionaire George Soros, accused the Adani group.

Rahul Gandhi at a press conference in Mumbai on Thursday, 31 August 2023 targets the Adani Group over the OCCRP report.

Rahul Gandhi has surrounded the Modi government on the claim made in this report that two foreigners are associated with Gautam Adani's brother Vinod Adani, in such a situation serious questions arise whether this money is Adani's or someone else's?

He said that how are these foreigners being allowed to work in India's infrastructure?

Rahul Gandhi has reiterated Congress's old demand that a detailed investigation into the Adani case should be conducted by the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). Terming the demand for investigation by JPC as a matter of national importance, he has claimed that there is no difference of opinion in the alliance of opposition parties 'India' on this issue.

Questioning the intention of the Central Government to conduct a clean inquiry into the allegations against the Adani Group, Rahul Gandhi said that the official of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), who gave a clean chit to Gautam Adani, are now working for Adani Group-run news organisation NDTV have been made directors.

To this he said that this meant that there was no inquiry and the Prime Minister did not want any inquiry into the matter. He has claimed that India's credibility is now at stake.

According to him, "There is no level playing field in India anymore. All the contracts and projects were given to one person. Only one person is buying all the property of the country."

Rahul Gandhi said, "Why is the Prime Minister protecting only one person like this? Why is a person who is very close to Modi ji being allowed to invest billions of dollars to increase his share price? This person is then taking over the airports and ports etc. in the country with this money. Why is this matter not being investigated? It should be probed by the JPC.''

He said, "Why is the Prime Minister silent? Why is he not ordering an inquiry into the matter? He will have to prove himself clean in this matter. The G-20 meeting is being held in India. It is a question of India's image. That's why we are raising this issue.''
