The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday made it clear that the Indian team will take part in the Champions Trophy tournament in England next month and the team will be selected on May 8.

The BCCI took this decision in the special general meeting held here (SGM). Later, the information was given through a press release.

"In SGM, it was decided unanimously that the Indian cricket team will participate in the upcoming Champions Trophy tournament," the BCCI said in a statement. The BCCI said that the selection of Indian team for the tournament will be held in New Delhi on Monday. The senior selection committee will be in the meeting.

Apart from this, the decision to authorize the BCCI executive secretary Amitabh Chaudhary was unanimously decided in this meeting. Under this, he will continue to negotiate with the International Cricket Council (ICC) in the interest of the Board.

It is notable that the ICC had voted in its board meeting last week to reduce the BCCI's share in the income. The angry BCCI did not pick up the team until the final deadline for the announcement of the team, considering the Champions Trophy coming in England from June 1 to 18.

The ICC had finalized the final date for the tournament to be announced by April 25. The BCCI's intention was not to send the team to England for the Champions Trophy because of the ongoing tension with the ICC.

This would cause considerable loss to the ICC and the local organizers, and then doing so, India could put pressure on the ICC to make its point. The Supreme Court's appointed Administrator's Committee (COA), on Thursday, took the BCCI to the fore and told him to announce the team for the Champions Trophy as soon as possible.

The COA told the board that despite the differences with the ICC regarding the new financial structure, the team's announcement should not be delayed.

The COA said that despite differences with the regulatory body, the BCCI should not ignore the interests of the players as they have the right to participate in a major tournament. For this, the COA demanded to convene an emergency meeting of the selection committee in a letter to Amitabh Chaudhary before the Special General Meeting (SGM) on Sunday, and to declare the team for the Champions Trophy.
