More than 200 people have died in a powerful earthquake in Mexico's capital, Mexico city, and dozens of buildings have become ground-locked.

Rescuers are campaigning for the survivors in the wreckage and officials say that the number of people killed can increase.

A school in Mexico City is believed to be trapped there. Volunteers are largely deployed for emergency services.

The President of Mexico said in a message on TV that the army has been convened and rescue and relief work will continue in the night.

The earthquake of 7.1 on Richter scale caused a huge devastation in Mexico City, Morialos and Puebla provinces.

A similar devastating earthquake occurred in Mexico just 32 years ago, in which 10,000 people were killed.
