The Energy Minister of Maharashtra has questioned the suggestion of Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
Maharashtra Energy Minister Nitin Raut has said that if all the lights in the country are switched off simultaneously, it may cause grid failure.
According to news agency ANI, Nitin Raut said that in such a situation all emergency services will also be stopped and it may take up to a week to recover.
He appealed to the people not to turn off the lights when they light a candle or a lamp on 5 April.
India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has issued a video message appealing to all the people of the country to light a lamp or candle for nine minutes at 9 pm on April 5. The Prime Minister has said that during this time people should extinguish the electric lights.
The opposition has raised questions on Prime Minister Modi's suggestion.
