Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar died on Sunday at the age of 63. Parrikar was suffering from pancreatic cancer for the last one year. He was undergoing treatment in America as well as at AIIMS in New Delhi and a private hospital in Mumbai.
India's President Ramnath Kovind tweeted and informed about the demise of Parrikar.
Congress President Rahul Gandhi also tweeted and condoled the demise of Manohar Parrikar.
Manohar Parrikar has been the Defense Minister of India in the Modi Government. He had resigned during the tenure of Defense Minister and for the fourth time he became Chief Minister of Goa on March 14, 2017.
Earlier, he was also the Chief Minister of Goa from 2000 to 2002, 2002 to 2005 and 2012 to 2014.
During the tenure of Defense Minister of India from 2014 to 2017, he was MP from Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh.
Parrikar was born on 13 December 1955 in Mapusa, 13 km from Panaji, the capital of Goa.
He studied at Lola High School, Madgaon and completed graduate studies in Metallurgical Engineering from IIT Mumbai in 1978.
He was the first IIT graduate to become the legislator of any Indian state.
