Shujaat Bukhari, the editor of the English newspaper 'Rising Kashmir', was buried to his native village today and thousands of people participated in his funeral. Unidentified gunmen shot him dead outside the newspaper office yesterday.
Despite heavy rains, in this village of Baramulla district thousands of people were walking along with the last journey of Bukhari with damp eyes. In his native village joining the last journey of Bukhari, Opposition leader Omar Abdullah and the PDP and the BJP ministers were also involved. People participating in the Janaja (last journey) said that no one has ever seen such a janaja (last journey) before that in which so many people have joined.
The traffic was blocked due to the large number of people reaching here. Bukhari and his two bodyguards were shot and killed by unidentified gunmen outside Rising Kashmir's office in the Press Enclave near Lal Chowk shortly before the Iftar yesterday evening. Bukhari played an important role in the events organized for peace in the Kashmir valley. He was also a part of the track-2 process with Pakistan.
