After rumors of the removal of Article 35A in Kashmir on Monday, the authorities closed Srinagar and other areas of the valley.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police said in a statement issued in Srinagar, "In many places the rumor spread that Article 35A has been abolished. Which is completely wrong. Now the court has not taken any decision about this. It is appealed to the people not to pay attention to such rumors and maintain peace."
As a precaution, shops, public transport and other establishments were closed. The reports of clashes of Stone throwers were also found in Anantnag and some other places with security forces. The official said that the security forces are engaged in controlling the situation. In a statement, the police has appealed to people to maintain peace and not to pay attention to rumors.
The police said in the statement, "The news has been broadcast in connection with Article 35A in some sections of the media. News is denied due to being unfounded. People are urged to maintain peace and not to pay attention to rumors. The main hearing on the matter is to be on August 31.
In the year 1954, Article 35A was included in the Constitution by an order of the President.
