Chhattisgarh: Maoist attack on security forces before elections

In the Naxal-affected Kanker of Chhattisgarh, six IED blasts by the Maoists, Sub Inspector Mahendra Singh of the Border Security Force died. In Bijapur there has been an encounter between the security forces and the Maoists. The security forces have killed a Naxalite in the encounter. Senior police officials told the agency on the phone that a team of STF was patrol in Beedre police station area of Bijapur district. When this group was in the area, the Maoists attacked the police force. After this the police also responded. Naxalites escaped after a brief encounter. Later, when the police team searched the spot, there was a Naxalite body in the black uniform, a gun and other luggage. He said that more information is being raised in this regard.

Officials said that in another incident a sub inspector of the BSF was injured due to the explosion in the landmine tunnel in Kanker district. He said that the BSF team had gone for patrol in the CoyaliBeda police station area of the district. When the group was in the middle of Kuttakal and Gom, then the Naxalites blasted six IED between Koyali Bada's Gom and Gattakal village. BSF sub inspector Mahendra Singh was injured in this incident.

They informed that after getting information about the incident, additional police teams have been dispatched for the spot and action is being taken to evacuate the injured policeman. Campaign against Naxalites in the area is in progress. In the area, the Naxalites have opposed the election and have done three major incidents in the last 15 days.

Significantly, for the first phase of assembly elections in Chhattisgarh, election campaign ended on Saturday evening. The first phase will be voting on the 12th of this month. Last day, BJP President Amit Shah and Congress President Rahul Gandhi campaigned in the state. Candidates will now be able to make personal publicity and house-to-house contact.

Polling will be held on November 12 in 18 assembly constituencies of Kanker, Kondagaon, Bastar, Narayanpur, Bijapur, Dantewada, Sukma and Rajnandgaon in seven districts of Naxal-affected Bastar region of the state. Officials said that in 10 Assembly constituencies Mohalla Manpur, Antagarh, Bhanupratappur, Keshkala, Kanker, Kondagaon, Narayanpur, Dantewada, Bijapur and Konta, voting will be held from 7 am to 3 pm. In Khairagarh, Dongargarh, Rajnandgaon, Dongargaon, Khuji, Bastar, Jagdalpur and Chitrakot, the voting will take place from 8 AM to 5 PM.
