BCCI officials have asked Virender Sehwag to apply for the coach of Team India. Anil Kumble's contract with the current coach is ending this month. They expect it to be renewed.

It was told that BCCI general managers from Sehwag have asked to apply for the post of coach.

Kumble has been at the forefront of the salary negotiations with BCCI members and BCCI administrators appointed by the Supreme Court. He has also demanded raise wages for the cricketers, members and support staff. During his tenure Team India has consistently won five Test series and they have reached number one rank. Despite 100 percent record, the BCCI has sought applications for the post of coach last week.

A top BCCI official said, "We had talked to Sehwag during the IPL and asked to apply for the post of coach. But he will not be alone in this race. Other former cricketers will also apply for this.

When the Sunday Express asked Virender Sehwag about this, he said that he has not been asked to apply for the coach till now. It has also been learned that some Indian players have advocated to stay in the coach of Kumble. Talking to the coach in the dressing room, the matter of unhappiness has been reached to the BCCI administrators, but nothing has been given so far in writing.

Kumble is currently in England with Team India for the Champions Trophy, where his first match will be from Pakistan on June 4.

A BCCI official said, the board once again wants to select the coach post. Second, the contract will last until the 2019 World Cup. Therefore, it is necessary to consider before appointing a coach on the contract period also.

He said that all the applicants will have to appear before the High Profile Cricket Committee, which includes Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, after May 31.

Interestingly, a year ago, Sourav Ganguly had asked Kumble to apply for the post, and he was chosen as coach instead of the then coach Ravi Shastri.
